In this article, I am referring to offline non volatile mass storage devices such as hard disks and cds. The computer storage has evolved dramatically since it was first employed in the mid 1900s. I will be listing some of the major computer storage used during this evolution with a brief description of each storage device.

Increasing the performance is becoming a hard task latetly. Increase the clock speed was the trend before increasing it from 1GHZ to around 3GHZ. This only resulted in a small performance increase and in addition this was blocked by physical matter restrictions that won't allow much increase in clock speed. Therefore new ways had to be discovered and used and hence comes Dual-Core technology.
